Welcome to the Cattle Section of Poynton Show

Firstly, a very big “thanks” to all of our exhibitors, who support us here at Poynton and produce a magnificent showcase of their rural life.

The familiar cattle breeds that you see in the countryside, will be at the Show and there will be some ‘milking demonstrations’ too, during the day. We hope you will enjoy yourselves, here at Poynton

Class Groupings – example from 2023

Dairy Cattle

Holstein, Coloured and Cross Bred, Dairy Breeds.

Beef Cattle

Longhorn ; Highland ; Herefords; Other Native Breeds; Continental Pure Breeds ; Commercial Beef and British Blondes

Young Handlers

There are some classes for farming’s Young Handlers, too. [Age 25 max.]

Within these groups, competitive Classes are held which are categorised by age, sex and breed etc.

Each group is judged to decide on which is the best beast, the winner goes forward to contest for ‘best in group’ and if successful, goes on to contend in the ‘Supreme Dairy’ or ‘Supreme Beef’ Championships.

Poynton is situated  11 miles south-southeast of Manchester, 7 miles north of Macclesfield, and 5 miles south of Stockport.

Getting There

Poynton Show ground is a short, level walk from Poynton Town centre or a 10 minute walk from Poynton Rail Station

Accommodation

There are a variety of independent B&Bs and hotels in Poynton, as well as a Travel Lodge a short drive from the showground.
